Globalisation, Strategic Relations and Governance
摘要
This chapter outlines globalisation, statehood, social forces and state-led development settings. Globalisation brings with it opportunities and challenges for the state as it has to cooperate and contend with social forces such as capitalists and civil society over power, wealth, rights and sustainable issues while embarking on development agendas. The International Political Economy (IPE) theory elucidates on the dynamic power relations between the state and social forces in the era of globalisation, capitalism and environmentalism. Existing scholarly works on globalisation, the state, social forces and environment are reviewed in order to map out the existing scholarships on social conflict and scales of governance between the state and social forces in the era of globalisation, capitalism and environmentalism.
