Three-dimensional (3D) printing is a rapidly developing manufacturing technique that emerged in the 1980s. This technology is now being integrated into healthcare settings to ease processes in the pharmaceutical industry and clinical practice. It enables the exact layer-by-layer deposition of materials to produce customizable dosage forms and drug delivery systems, such as transdermal patches, microneedles, implants, capsules, and tablets. 3D printing can also be used to produce customized prescriptions, solve supply chain problems, and minimize product waste and waiting times. This chapter focuses on the fabrication of customized 3D-printed dosage forms tailored to patient needs, materials, procedures, advantages, and challenges in the dispensing and pharmaceutical industries.
