The development of green and sustainable supply chains has tried to integrate many environmental concerns into businesses, like reducing waste and carbon footprints in the production and consumption processes. A circular economy, which consists of circular modes of production, is encouraged in businesses as it overcomes the drawbacks of traditional linear operating models and also emphasizes transforming products for environmental sustainability. The traditional linear operating models did not focus on minimizing waste; it was based on the take-make-dispose model. Here, the emphasis was on immediate gains and not on sustainability. The circular economy focuses on how products and materials can be kept as long as they can be used. The concept of Circular Supply Chain has been evolving very fast. Though the distinction between CSC and other sustainability areas is very fuzzy, its scope and focus are very different. This chapter will explain this distinction in detail. This fundamental shift from a linear to a circular supply chain affects the way businesses approach production, consumption, and waste processes. This can be achieved by implementing the 3 R’s of circular economy, namely, reduce, reuse, and recycle. It can be said that this chapter will give an overview of the transition to CSC as well as the benefits and challenges associated with it.
