Integrating Green Manufacturing Techniques and Resource Strategies: Advancing Circular Supply Chain Sustainability in Manufacturing Industries

The promotion of circular supply chain sustainability in manufacturing industries requires the integration of green manufacturing techniques with resource strategies. By addressing these challenges and aligning operational practices with the principles of the circular economy, industries can achieve long-term sustainability and increase their competitiveness. A number of sustainability challenges have arisen from the increased use of lean and green manufacturing technologies, with the focus of green and lean being environmental impact reduction, waste reduction, and operational efficiency. However, these approaches have not fully resolved these issues of broader sustainability, such as resource scarcity, long-term environmental degradation, and high implementation costs. For this reason, there must be proper linkage between green manufacturing techniques and the management of resources in circular supply chain. In fact, this study has identified four centres of gravity common for implementing circular supply chain sustainability: resource efficient and optimized supply chain, the strategic supply chain, governance and policy fit, and lean green manufacturing integration. To ensure that they achieve the highest levels of operational performance and implement mechanisms to ensure environment sustainability, green technologies should meet these basics requirements when being adopted by such sectors to a point of being fully integrated into the supply chain. Resource utilization and utilization efficiency has to do with making the most of the available resources without wastage, energy consumption or pollution. Application of lean-green manufacturing enhances the flexibility and adaptability of the supply chain through resource volatility and timely and accurate data exchange with little utilization of resources and minimal emission. Supporting sub-criteria that encompass investment in green technologies, supplier partnership for accountability in sourcing, formation of waste reduction programs all supplement the main criterion. The same report also outlines four additional critical success factors that can be used to improve the sustainability of circular SCM as follows. These themes suggest that, if the flow of resources for recycling is to be followed or indeed improved, then specific types of technology have to exist within the supply chain. Others are also important that enable building of relationship with the suppliers and other stakeholders in order to also force them implement sustainable practices along the chain. More significantly, there is a need for business sustainability policies to be part of companies’ sustainability governance and policy fitting that meets legislated external requirements and the tenets of circular economy.
