Faculty Perception Toward the Entry of Foreign Universities in Indian Higher Education

Present study seeks to explore the faculty perception regarding the entry of foreign universities in the Indian higher education space. The semi-structured interview was conducted with 24 management faculties associated with fifteen management institutes in India. ATLAS.ti, a popular qualitative software has been used for data analysis. A thematic analysis approach through an inductive coding has been used for analyzing the descriptive data. The six major themes emerged from the analysis highlighting the perceived challenges and opportunities. Most significant theme is the faculty’s perception is about the increased job opportunities. Study reveals that faculties are foreseeing increased opportunity in terms of employment and greater exposure for students resulting from entry of foreign university in India. However, significant concern has been observed for mediocre faculties in terms of loss of job and about quality of education in those institutions which fail to match up with their foreign counterparts.
