Seismic Behavior of Private Wooden Building Located in Bandung Regency, West Java, Indonesia

Earthquake-resistant designs of wooden buildings are a necessity, especially for the Bandung Regency area, West Java, Indonesia. This research studies the seismic behavior of a 5 m × 7 m private wooden building which functions as an educational and learning facility for children in Indragiri Village, Bandung Regency, West Java, Indonesia. The scope of the research is that wooden buildings use beams with the longest span of 5 m. The wood used is yellow Meranti (Shorea faguatiana) timber; The beams use a mechanical lamination system with bolt as shear connection. The building is located in an area with parameters SDs of 0.92 and SD1 of 0.51. Seismic behavior is studied using dynamic response spectrum analysis according to SNI 1726. The research results show that the building drift is lower than the permit limits, the column capacity does not exceed the factored load, the beam capacity does not exceed the factored load, and the beam deflection due to gravity loads is smaller than the permit limits. In general, the building is safe according to its function as a residential building. The innovation of using mechanically laminated wood provides the advantage of making beams with large cross-sectional sizes according to needs, considering the limitations of existing wood, namely limited dimensions and cross-sectional sizes.
