Impact of Integrated Project Delivery on Project Performance Metrics: Cost, Schedule, Quality, Safety, and Sustainability

The integrated project delivery (IPD) approach facilitates the sharing of risks and rewards, emphasizing overall project outcomes over individual objectives. While previous studies have primarily focused on specific performance measures, regional project contexts, self-reported data, and case studies, some fail to adequately address critical aspects such as safety and sustainability, which are increasingly vital in project delivery. Thus, this study presents an assessment of the IPD method’s impact on project performance indicators such as cost, schedule, quality, safety, and sustainability. Construction industry professionals were asked to evaluate how IPD implementation influenced them through structured questionnaires. Statistical tests, including the Kruskal-Wallis, analysis of variance, and Z-tests, were applied to 28 complete and valid survey responses out of 78 received. Findings reveal a notable discrepancy in mean values, suggesting a prioritization of cost impact over other metrics, yet no significant variation in median values implies relatively equal importance across all metrics from respondents’ perspectives. These results not only enhance the empirical understanding of IPD's effectiveness in addressing deficient project performance metrics but also provide valuable insights for project stakeholders striving to align with shared goals and visions.
