Perceiving Illness Experiences
摘要
Perception is understood as seeing and experiencing something through individual senses or mind. Sensing objects, problems, physical movements, people’s experiences, etc., helps interpret meaning according to individuals’ understanding and cognitive capacity. How does an individual notice and understand that things that are not noticeable to another person vary from one person to another? When a person translates his or her sensory impressions consistently and gives meaning to the world he or she lives in, that is the perception of the person. The thesis takes the help of the concept of perception in order to understand perceived notions about illness and health and try to understand in the context of Hadi Caste in Chas town, Bokaro district. While interpreting the information to explain and understand the social situations and environments, the person uses the method of organising, identifying, and interpreting her/his sensory information. In a way, there is an involvement of the mind and thoughts that, mind and thoughts shape perception, like learning, memory, expectation, and attention (Gregory 1987).
