The Great East Japan Earthquake hit Tohoku in 2011, causing extensive damage. Researchers and governments forecasted another large earthquake and tsunami to hit the Wakayama and Toukai areas. Through sustainable local asset management, a local community association known as ‘Shinjyo Aigoukai’ implemented several activities to address tsunami disasters without relying on local government support. Shinjyo Junior High has developed tsunami disaster education programs with support from the association, working together to learn lessons from past tsunami events. This chapter assesses self-sustaining community resilience through local community and asset management using natural resources by observing ‘Shinjyo Aigoukai’ in Tanabe City.
