This chapter establishes the urgency of land restoration, its socioeconomic imperatives, and approaches of different countries toward addressing this global challenge. This chapter further discusses the concerted efforts through calls for global action on land degradation at various platforms and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and emphasizes the role of international cooperation. This chapter goes on to describe the journey of land restoration efforts across previous G20 presidencies, brings about the successes unlocked during India’s G20 presidency, and paves a path forward with clear recommendations, such as integrating restoration in developmental policies, innovating financing, ensuring enforcement, scaling up ecosystem-based approaches, and involving local communities with Indigenous knowledge toward comprehensive land restoration efforts in India.
