Lipedema is a chronic, progressive medical condition characterized by the symmetric accumulation of adipose tissue, primarily in the lower extremities, which can lead to pain, mobility issues, and psychological distress. Unlike typical fat distribution, lipedema fat is resistant to diet and exercise and often coexists with a tendency toward easy bruising and pain upon pressure. This condition predominantly affects women and is frequently misdiagnosed or underdiagnosed, partly because of a lack of awareness among healthcare providers and overlapping symptoms with other conditions such as lymphedema and obesity.
