Photodynamic diagnosis (PDD) is a noninvasive, convenient, and safe diagnostic technique that uses the fluorescence emitted by photosensitizers during physical deexcitation to identify diseases. PDD facilitates disease detection, localization, and efficacy assessment by exciting specific fluorescence in abnormal tissues. It can be used independently or alongside photodynamic therapy and is clinically applied to diagnose nonmelanoma skin tumors, HPV-related conditions, diseases of hair follicles and sebaceous glands, and other skin disorders.
