Exploring Factors Influencing Faculty Performance in Philippine Higher Education: A Cognitive Assessment

As higher education in the Philippines seeks to be at par with providing quality education worldwide, faculty members’ workloads are also increasing. In colleges and universities, faculty are expected to do classroom management, academic advising, research, lectures, and attend webinars to keep up with trends. With this, the productivity and performance of the faculty are affected. Recently, the focus of research papers has been the well-being of the students, and there still needs to be more literature for the faculty members/in higher education. The study was conducted to shed light on the many health issues that faculty members are experiencing because of the workload. It aims to provide possible solutions and recommend possible preventive measures to prevent and lessen the risks of the different cognitive strains experienced by the faculty members and improve their well-being and performance. A total of one hundred ten participants from Occidental Mindoro, Philippines, answered the Carmen Q and Nordic questionnaire. The results revealed that the faculty member are experiencing high cognitive strains preventing them to carry out their normal tasks. The result of this study can be a basis for a better work design for management in colleges and universities worldwide.
