In ergonomic research, spatial ability tests using paper-and-pencil tests sometimes do not show a correlation with participants’ navigation performance. Wayfinding games have potential quantify spatial ability. This study organized a 42-person experiment that examined the association between participants’ navigational mobile game performance and spatial ability test results. The results indicated that participants’ digital traces are the better predictor of self-reported sense of direction compared to time-based performance. Meanwhile, mobile phone wayfinding games could also assess human spatial memory and have the potential to develop tasks to assess spatial abilities.
