Numerous studies have explored psychophysical dimensions of visual and audio perceptions. However, establishing a unified framework to elucidate the psychophysical dimensions of tactile perception remains challenging. The vocabulary used varies among researchers and the same terms may imply different meanings. Establishing consistent terminology can overcome obstacles in psychophysical studies of tactile perception. In addition, creating a logical and comprehensive semantic system is the first step in designing advanced tactile interaction. This study proposes psychophysical dimensions of tactile perception by classifying vocabularies representing tactile perception based on affective engineering and haptics. We compiled vocabulary related to tactile perception and proposed two classification criteria to systematically classify them. Criteria based on affective engineering approaches and those proposed by previous researchers on object properties were combined to derive eight psychophysical dimensions of tactile perception. The relationships between vocabularies in different studies were discerned, laying the groundwork for consistent terminology.
