Ergonomic Workplace Design for Workers with Disabilities and the Potential of Mockup Systems

Employment opportunities for employees with disabilities are significantly lower than for non-disabled employees. Despite advances in workplace design facilitated by modern technologies, there are still significant challenges in integrating people with disabilities into different work environments. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) often lack the resources to employ ergonomists and other specialists necessary for ergonomic workplace design. Larger companies also face problems as employees with disabilities often work in segregated environments, separate from their non-disabled colleagues. The aim of this study is to identify the current state of ergonomic workplace design for workers with disabilities on general, in Europe and in Slovenia in particular. In addition, the study explores the potential of modern technologies, such as the Xsens sensor suit and mockup systems, to improve and simplify workplace design for workers with disabilities.
