Impact of Screen Timing on Sleeping Pattern Among College Students Affected by Usage of Electronic Gadgets
摘要
As far as current technological advancement is concerned, an alarming issue arises among college students mainly concerned with their sleep quality and physical health. Thus, this paper explores the association of electronic devices, sleep, and the related physical and psychological discomforts of college students in Wardha. One hundred and twenty-two subjects filled out a questionnaire about their screen time, sleep quality, and physical symptoms. It was found that increased screen exposure significantly affected sleep quality; sleeping difficulties and less duration of sleep were observed. Increased screen exposure was associated with more neck pain and eye strain discomfort that caused more psychological discomfort and anxiety. The screen time has a moderate negative correlation with average sleep duration. These findings point to the necessity for policies targeting the effects of use of electronic devices such as eliminating the number of such devices used close to sleeping time and offering mental health therapy to the patients with regard to the etiology of specific psychological conditions. The work also addresses the need to create work–life balance for students, as sleep quality, physical discomfort, and the general well-being of the individuals promotes healthy use of screens, which is essential among the students.
