This chapter examines the temporal changes in disparities in living standards among households and the educational opportunities available to children using individual data from household surveys. We consider educational expenditure, including tuition fees and supplementary education costs, as an indicator of educational opportunities. To measure inequality, we calculate the Kakwani index, which is based on the Gini coefficient for equivalized household consumption expenditure and the concentration coefficient for educational expenditure. Additionally, we analyze the equality of educational opportunities, incorporating disparities in living standards as represented by the Gini coefficient. The study covers the period from January 2000 to October 2021. The findings reveal that disparities in educational opportunities among children are greater than disparities in living standards among households. Since 2000, there has been a general decline in the equality of educational opportunities, especially in junior high school and the lower grades of high school. The results also indicate that the aging of household heads contributes to the reduction in the equality of educational opportunities for children.

摘要
