Enabling Sustainable 5G Networks Through Energy-Efficient Open Radio Access Networks (ORAN) Ecosystems
摘要
The protracted erection of 5G networks has brought energy consumption issues since the faster and real-time network is expected. To that end, Open RAN has emerged as a possible solution to improve the energy efficiency of the 5G network infrastructure. Open RAN, due to its loosely coupled architecture, enables the combination of different HW and SW platforms, which creates a base for energy savings innovative solutions. This paper investigates the potential of Open RAN in reducing the energy consumption of 5G networks by leveraging dynamic resource allocation, intelligent scheduling, and AI-driven power consumption forecasting. Analyzing the state-of-the-art technologies in the Open RAN context, the study investigates how these architectures can be deployed to minimize energy consumption and achieve high network performance and availability. Besides these, it explains how energy efficiency in Open RAN infrastructure can be achieved practically and the possible drawbacks of implementing Green 5G solutions based on Open RAN. Thus, by analyzing these strategies, the paper will try to make a further contribution in addressing the challenges of how to develop green telecommunication networks.
