Conceptualising a Decision Support System for Circular Economy Practices
摘要
In a circular economy model, resources are circulated at their highest economic value in contrast to the linear economy model, where resources are extracted to make products and disposed of after use without considering their full potential. Adopting circular economy (CE) practices at the project level would assist in the transformation of the construction industry from a linear to a circular model. These CE practices could enhance the project’s circularity and create significant impacts on the Economy, Society and the Environment (ESE). Several assessment methods have been introduced to assess the success of implementing CE practices at the project level. Yet, few are considered to evaluate the ESE impacts of applied CE practices and support decision-making in construction projects. Thus, this study aims to develop a conceptual model of a Decision Support System (DSS) to support decision-making in construction projects, when evaluating different CE solutions based on their ESE impacts. A critical literature review was initially conducted to identify CE practices, impacts and impact assessment methods in order to develop the model based on Decision Support System (DSS). Ultimately, this study will enhance the rational implementation of CE practices in construction projects, while positively impacting ESE, which will lead to sustainable development.
