This study aimed to examine the multidimensional motivational characteristics of Chinese amateur badminton players. A total of 300 participants (180 males, 120 females) completed the Badminton Participation Motivation Questionnaire, which assesses various factors influencing participation, including family, social, and escape motivations. Results indicated that family motivation emerged as the primary factor, followed by social and escape motivations. Gender differences were observed, with males exhibiting higher levels of family motivation and females demonstrating stronger social and escape motivations. Many participants highlighted the importance of social interaction and the role of badminton in establishing and maintaining social relationships. This study provides valuable insights into the motivations of amateur badminton players in Yunnan, China. Future research could explore additional factors, such as cultural background and economic status, to gain a deeper understanding of participation motivations.
