A Comprehensive Analysis of Energy-Efficient Swing Drive System in Excavator Machine Using Independent Metering Control
摘要
This study investigates the energy savings achieved through the implementation of the Independent Metering Control (IMC) for precise angular position control in the Hydraulic Swing Drive (HSD) system of an excavator machine. The opening of the valve ports is regulated by a PID controller to control the angular position of the swing motor. This study involves a comparative analysis between the conventional and IMC-based HSD systems. A detailed simulation model of the HSD system is developed on the MATLAB/Simulink platform, incorporating the IMC control strategies. Under varying loading conditions, key performance factors such as energy consumption, efficiency, and response time are examined. The simulation results show that the IMC system significantly reduces the energy consumption during the swing operation with an energy-saving efficiency of 41.56% compared to the conventional system. Furthermore, the results also show that the IMC system enhances the precision of swing operations. The paper concludes that the IMC system promotes sustainable practices in heavy machinery operations by reducing energy consumption and operational costs.
