Analysis of Forward Error Correction Codes in Fiber Optic Communication for Improved Coding Gain
摘要
This paper investigates the utility of FEC codes used to improve communication systems reliability. We consider Reed–Solomon (RS) codes, Convolutional codes, and their concatenation, and analyze their performance through BPSK modulated system for an optical fiber network. Particularly RS(255,239), has an excellent error correction and coding gain performance against burst errors in optical fiber communication. We have also tested the performance of RS code with QPSK and 8-PSK modulation. From Matlab simulations, it was observed that the concatenated RS and Convolutional code provides maximum coding gain.
