Urban cluster development in steep landscapes has alarmingly increased due to the rapid urbanization of mountainous regions. This trend has made urban areas more vulnerable to mountain hazards like landslides, now referred to as urban landslides. These urban landslides significantly threaten people and property, causing economic disruption. Compared to isolated landslides in remote mountain regions, the financial effects of urban landslides are far more severe. To address this urgent issue, we propose using blue-green infrastructure, which integrates naturally occurring and designed features, including vegetated slopes, drainage systems, and green areas. Blue-green infrastructure makes these locations less vulnerable to landslides, as they absorb excess rainfall, stabilize the soil, and encourage sustainable urban planning. In this context, we evaluate the urban landslides in the Indian state of Uttarakhand during the North India Floods of 2013, emphasizing the need to integrate blue-green infrastructure for improved hazard resilience in hilly urban development.
