A Study on Stability Analysis of an Earthen Dam Under Rapid and Slow Draw Down Condition
摘要
As per IS 7894, draw down condition is one of the critical conditions for the stability of an earth dam. The drawdown condition arises when totally or partially submerged slopes experience a reduction of the external water level. This is a common situation in riverbanks, subjected to changing river levels. Again, dam operations lead to changes in water level, which modify the safety factor against sliding of the upstream slope of earth dams. In case of high reservoir level, hydrostatic pressures help to stabilize the U/s slope. When water level reduces it causes reduction of the stabilizing external hydrostatic pressure and a modification of the internal pore water pressures. The second effect may lead to critical conditions of the slope in dam design. The primary objective of the study is to identify the stability of a proposed homogeneous earthen dam composed of silty clay to be constructed in Eastern Part of India in following drawdown condition: (i) Instantaneous Drawdown (Reservoir level drops from 8.0 to 2.0 m) and its effects up to 30 days using Geo Studio Software (SEEPW & SLOPEW) (Transient State Analysis); (ii) Draw Down with different draw down rates and its effects up to 30 days using Geo studio Software (SEEPW & SLOPEW) (Transient Sate Analysis).
