This study presents the results from geophysical tests performed on a newly constructed earthen dam, located in Hyderabad, Telangana. Two specific locations situated approximately 1 km apart, within the 45 m high dam are examined. To assess the stiffness of compacted soil within the earthen dam, a combination of two geophysical techniques is employed. Firstly, the Multi-Channel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) method to measure shear wave velocities across a 60 m section of the dam is considered. Secondly, Electrical Resistivity Tests (ERT) along the same stretch to monitor seepage condition within the dam are conducted. Schlumberger method is applied for the ERT analysis, which measures the resistivity values allowing to identify the presence of water patches along the tested section. Based on the obtained shear wave velocity values, it is clear that the dam body predominantly consisted of stiff soil deposits, with shear wave velocities exceeding 180 m per second (m/s). The obtained information contributes valuable insights into the structural properties of a uniformly compacted earthen reservoir dam, aiding in its overall compaction quality control, assessment, and management.

摘要
