The preparation before cochlear implant surgery focuses on thoroughly assessing the patient’s hearing function to identify those who will benefit most from the procedure. This process also helps detect potential surgical complications and ensures the patient’s readiness for postoperative care. Typically, an ENT surgeon is the first to assess individuals with congenital hearing loss. The evaluation includes a series of tests conducted by an audiologist, speech and language pathologist, child psychologist, and paediatrician, followed by counselling for the family and setting up a vaccination timeline. This chapter highlights the importance of preoperative preparation before cochlear implant surgery.
