Design for Sustainability (DfS) originates from the concept of sustainable development. It represents the design industry’s theoretical reflection on the relationship between economic development and the environment and society, and design practices that constantly seek change and transformation based on this relationship. This conceptual evolution has shifted from a relatively isolated, technology-centered perspective to a more systematic, human-centered approach. Simply put, DfS is the thinking and practice of design researchers and practitioners within a broad context of sustainable development.
