The distributed economy is an emerging, highly sustainable economic model that tackles a range of complex contemporary and future challenges. It does so by establishing a production and consumption system based on localized, decentralized, open small-scale production units. By deeply understanding both the potential and limitations of this model, designers can play an active role in promoting the sustainable transformation of the world’s socioeconomic landscape.
