Introduction of Intelligent Biomaterials

Traditional biomaterials interact with living tissues and organs, and perform specific functions in a physiological environment with specific physical and biochemical properties. They have a wide scope of applications in areas such as tissue engineering, drug delivery, and disease treatments. In contrast, intelligent biomaterials are a kind of advanced biomaterials with self-adjustment and auto-feedback capability that communicate with nearby circumstances. Generally, intelligent biomaterials combine functions of biosensing, feedback responses, information analysis, and mega-data processing as well as artificial intelligence computation. By virtue of the characteristics of bioinformation management, two-way interactions, and integration of biomaterials-device-information, they have shown broad biomedical applications in health management, sensing and imaging, theranostics, and medical assistances. The continuing development of intelligent biomaterials offers sustainable solutions with cutting-edge medical paradigms, and possesses a promising prospect in future healthcare, precision medicine, and upcoming era of intelligent medicine.
