Artificial Intelligence and Tribal Knowledge Systems: Exploring Pathways for Protection Within Indigenous Communities of India and Beyond
摘要
This study explores the convergence of artificial intelligence (AI) with tribal knowledge systems, with an emphasis on protecting and preserving indigenous languages within Indian communities and beyond. As AI technologies advance rapidly, they offer both possibilities and hurdles for safeguarding tribal knowledge. The paper investigates AI’s potential in supporting indigenous languages, specifically through AI-driven language learning platforms, automated translation systems, and speech recognition tools. Moreover, it delves into the ethical aspects of AI interventions, such as ensuring cultural sensitivity and working with indigenous communities to make certain AI applications uphold and preserve the linguistic and cultural integrity of these languages. By reviewing case studies and present AI initiatives, the paper highlights both the opportunities and the challenges associated with integrating AI in the support and revitalization of indigenous languages. Ultimately, it emphasizes the necessity of a collaborative effort between AI developers and indigenous communities to create a sustainable, culturally aware, and effective framework for language preservation.
