The pursuit of materials in medicine demands a significant balance between scientific innovation, patient compliance and ethical considerations. In the ever-transforming landscape of regenerative medicine and biomedical research, medical materials have evolved from inert supports or functional substitutes to key players in promoting tissue function and regeneration. Furthermore, with a greater interdisciplinary approach, materials research is now all set toward reshaping both clinical medicine and patient outcomes. Through this chapter, we have tried to bring forth some of the cutting-edge materials that have shown tremendous potential toward several clinical applications. These advanced materials are not only bioinspired but also offer structural and functional attributes that address the limitation of the traditional clinical research such as smart materials, drug-eluting materials, wearable technology materials, next-generation hemostats and breathable materials. Discussing the limitations of clinical research and how these materials are a best-fit technology, the need of a synergistic interplay between materials innovation, biocompatibility and associated ethical concerns has been highlighted. The chapter further underscores the envisioned future directions, translational scope and challenges with the growing technology and research in this domain.
