Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) has established a new medical school to bring a paradigm shift toward medical research and innovation in the country and bridge the gap between medical sciences and technology. With 75 years of proven excellence in engineering and technological education at IIT Kanpur and having one of the best innovation and incubation ecosystems, setting up of Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology (GSMST) ushers a futuristic vision of an engineering-infused academic curriculum for post-graduate super-speciality medical disciplines and technology-driven biomedical science and MedTech innovations. GSMST will bring together available expertise of IIT Kanpur's faculty across science, engineering and humanities disciplines to address the unmet challenges. These endeavors are supported through intramurally funded R&D Centers of Excellence (CoE). These R&D CoE are specialized centers in targeted biomedical research areas and proposed to work with core clinical departments of super-speciality hospital, including cardiology, neurology, gastroenterology and nephrology, to train and nurture next-generation medical practitioners and medical engineers to develop solutions for equitable healthcare.
