General Introduction I: Europe in the World, 1350–1650
摘要
In this chapter, we will enter each century from the mid-point to highlight its chief features. The year 1350 is used as a key to unlock a period of war, disease and recovery in fourteenth-century Europe. Year 1450, the year the Catalan-Estense map was made, celebrates an expanding world and an emergent global economy that ends on a triumphal note with Cabral’s ‘discovery’ of Brazil in 1500.
