摘要

The growing demand of energy and over dependency on non-renewable resources have highlighted the environmental harm caused by conventional building design and construction. Consequently, sustainability has become a crucial focus in the industry, leading to the development of the green building concept. Understanding the barriers to green building implementation, particularly in developing countries like India, where regulatory shortcomings, controlled government incentives, technological gaps, and public indifference pose significant challenges. Imposing mixed-method approach, involving surveys and expert interviews, the research identifies solutions like government subsidies, setting up national green building standards, awareness, and the application of innovative technologies to boost green building practices. Through both quantitative and qualitative analysis, the findings underscore the industry’s potential to drive sustainable urban development, mitigate climate change, and improve resource efficiency. By addressing both the specified challenges of green building execution and the broader contributions of the construction industry to the SDGs, this study offers comprehensive insights and practical recommendations for policymakers, industry leaders, and businesses. It calls for collaborative efforts to overcome these barriers and ensures that construction practices contribute significantly to global sustainability goals.
