Seismic Assessment of Existing Reinforced Concrete Bridge in Indonesia by Means Incremental Dynamic Analysis

The prevention of bridge structural collapse during the seismic activity necessitates the implementation of earthquake mitigation measures. Existing bridges must be investigated to determine if the bridge is able to withstand earthquake loads for the duration of their service lifetime or if they require strengthening. The fragility curve is one method of analyzing the vulnerability of the bridges in order to assure their safety and serviceability. This study presents the fragility curve development of an existing Multi Span Continuous-Prestressed Concrete-Box Girder-Highway Bridge in Indonesia based on latest bridge standard SNI 2833: 2016 and Seismic Map 2017. Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA) was carried out with non-linear time history analysis using seven sets of earthquake recordings with different peak bedrock acceleration values that have occurred in several locations in the world and each scaled to several levels of earthquake intensity as seismic load input. The distribution of maximum displacement values was obtained for Slight, Moderate, Extensive, and Complete Damage was then determined by gradually increasing the earthquake force by 0.1 g increments. The developed fragility curve shows that the performance level of the bridge was categorized as “Life Safety”and the bridge experienced moderate damage.
