Research on Some Methods to Determine the Pre-consolidation Pressure for Soft Clays
摘要
This article focuses on studying the consolidation characteristics of soft soil layers of Holocene age in the Ho Chi Minh City area by performing a series of analyzes of the results of classical consolidation compression tests (level loading - IL). The consolidation test was performed on a Humbolts consolidation machine from the USA. The settlement of the sample is automatically collected using Linear Variable Differential Transformer (LVDT). The methods proposed by Casagrande (1936), Schmertmann (1955), Jose et al. (1989), Butterfield (1979), Becker et al. (1987) and Wang and Frost (2004) are used to determine pre-consolidation pressure. Additionally, the method proposed by Lunne et al. (1997) was used to evaluate sample quality affected by factors. The results show that the method proposed by Jose et al. (1989) gives pc results higher than those determined by other methods while the method proposed by Schmertmann (1955) shows good results even with samples of average quality.
