A Comparative Study of Urban Goods Distribution: Textiles and Furniture Markets in Delhi
摘要
Urban goods distribution plays a pivotal role in the efficient functioning of cities, impacting both economic activities and quality of life. Building upon previous research, this paper presents a comparative study of mode choice decisions in the distribution of textiles and furniture from wholesalers to retailers in the dynamic urban environment of Delhi, India. Utilizing discrete choice models, we investigate the factors influencing mode selection, considering variables such as time, cost, and distance. Employing structured questionnaires and face-to-face surveys, primary data is gathered to develop binary logit models for different transport modes, including non-motorized transport, three-wheel and four-wheel commercial vehicles, and light commercial vehicles. The analysis focuses on ton-kilometer traveled (TKT) and vehicle kilometers traveled (VKT) as suitable variables for intracity goods distribution. By comparing the distribution patterns of textiles and furniture, this study aims to provide insights into optimizing urban freight management strategies tailored to specific commodity markets, contributing to more sustainable and efficient urban logistics systems in Delhi and beyond.
