This study aims to enhance English vocabulary learning and reduce the workload of preschool teachers by creating an informal second language vocabulary learning environment and providing digital learning resources. However, current digital resources are not adequately integrated with hardware interaction devices and lack effective guidance and organization for game-based activities. To address these issues, we designed and developed an educational game called English Speaking Virtual Dog, aimed at helping preschool children learn vocabulary pronunciation and meaning in classroom teaching. The game is based on the Input-Process-Outcome game model, desktop virtual reality, speech evaluation, and facial recognition technologies. This study proposes an interactive learning system that integrates real-time speech evaluation and 3D character feedback, featuring an editable, personified virtual animal teacher that provides instructional guidance for teachers and learning feedback for preschoolers. Preliminary results demonstrate that the proposed game significantly improves preschoolers’ motivation, sense of presence, and learning outcomes. This paper offers strategies for improving second language vocabulary learning, particularly in kindergartens in rural areas of China and those with standard hardware conditions.

Promoting Preschool Second Language Vocabulary Learning Through a DVR Educational Game
