Chapter 9 briefly reviews the results of the rate of agricultural technological progress as measured by different studies since the reform and opening-up. Although some of these studies have summarized the reasons for the agricultural technological progress at different stages, they mainly take the form of narratives, rather than being elevated to causation. This chapter will focus on the main reasons for the agricultural technological progress that has been made since the reform and opening-up, mainly from two perspectives—research inputs and institutional reforms.
