In this chapter, we summarise the main developments of slow electronics and their impact, and examine future possibilities in human-centric applications. Technological innovations–such as neuromorphic devices with long time constants, reservoir circuits, and algorithms inspired by the principle of attractors–have brought about “slow electronics,” which makes it possible to process, in real time and with ultra-low power consumption, those time-series data with extremely long characteristic timescales that were previously difficult to handle using conventional ultra-fast digital control. Slow electronics is expected to be adopted into our daily lives–from autonomous regulation of physiological states and everyday activities to the enhancement of specialised skills–and to evolve into indispensable edge devices for a human-centric life, supporting quality of life improvements, emotional care, and cognitive resilience. In this chapter, by bridging technical and human/social perspectives to contemplate “Where is slow electronics headed?” and by looking ahead to its long-term contributions to technology and society, we bring this book to a close.

摘要
