Implementing Physical Activities Through Parenting Patterns in Children

This study aims to determine the parenting pattern of parents in instilling physical activity in children aged 4 to 5 years. A quantitative approach with a survey method is used in this research. Parenting style consists of two factors: structure for physical activity and support for autonomy. The survey was conducted on all parents and guardians of the Yogyakarta City Pembina State Kindergarten students. Data was obtained using a questionnaire and then analysed to get the percentage results. Descriptive analysis of physical activity parenting based on parental factors received the lowest score (minimum) of 10, highest score (maximum) of 20, average (mean) of 15.9, and standard deviation (SD) of 2.4. Descriptive Analysis of Parenting Patterns Physical activity based on maternal care factors obtained the lowest score (minimum) of 9, the highest score (maximum) of 20, the average (mean) of 16.3, and the standard deviation (SD) of 2.3. The parenting pattern of parents in instilling physical activity in their children shows that the mother is more dominant. With the average score between father and mother parenting, the mother's score is more significant than the father's. The results of this study indicate that parenting patterns in implementing physical literacy in children at TK Negeri Pembina show that mothers are more dominant in instilling physical literacy, with an average score between parenting patterns of fathers and mothers getting a higher score of mothers than fathers. Schools play a role in physical literacy in children through physical education programs and extracurricular sports, thus increasing the role of community-based schools that involve the community in promoting physical activities. Children's involvement in school activities should be fun and improve motor skills. The role of parents and the community in implementing physical literacy is needed.
