The Effectiveness of Massage Therapy in Alleviating Rage Disorder of Shoulder and Neck Joint Movement in Covid-19 Pandemic Period

The use of smartphones, laptop and computer in the WFA period during Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia in improper position increased the risk of musculoskeletal grievance. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of massage therapy in reducing shoulder and neck joint movement disorders during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study used quasi experimental design with control group. It was conducted in the massage therapy center of Plaza UNY at Jl. Affandi No. 168, Santren, Catur Tunggal, Depok, Sleman of the Special District of Yogyakarta on March 15th to September 30th, 2022. Samples were drawn using purposive sampling technique that gave 32 samples (n = 32). It used therapeutic massage standard operating procedure and range-of-movement (ROM) standard operating procedure. The results showed that neck joint movement disorder was found in 18 patients (56%) and shoulder joint movement disorder was found in 14 patients (44%). The result of independent t-test showed that the mean value of experimental variable was bigger than that of control variable and the significance value was <0.05, meaning that there was significant difference between the two experimental groups and the control group. It was concluded that massage therapy had significant impact on the recovery of neck and shoulder joint disorder of in front-of-screen workers.
