Although the impacts of climatic variability on water availability are well understood, rising air temperatures have an impact on water quality by raising water temperature, lowering ice cover, stabilising vertical stratification, and decreasing mixing in deep lakes. These changes can alter water discharge patterns, leading to higher sediment loads and increased nutrient runoff from soil erosion. Additionally, higher temperatures can decrease oxygen content and change chemical reactions, deteriorating water quality and impacting freshwater ecosystems. Climate change-induced hydrological changes have an indirect impact on the physiochemical and biological quality of water. Climate change affects the behaviour of toxic pollutants, potentially leading to more frequent episodes of droughts and floods. Poor water quality yields significant economic, social, and environmental risks, particularly in developing countries like India. India's economy, which depends heavily on agriculture, is under pressure from rising energy, freshwater, and food prices as well as population growth. To protect water quality, strategic planning must address climate change impacts and vulnerabilities. Adaptation measures include managing the level of water in wetland regions, rivers, and lakes, as well as creating plant corridors and buffer zones. Finding the best ways to give high-quality water to a future world concerned about water scarcity and recognising the elements affecting water quality due to climate change will surely be difficult.
