The semiconductor industry faces delays in the production of components, leading to longer lead times and causing customer dissatisfaction due to the time taken to receive the final product. Additive manufacturing is a field of interest that can aid in solving this issue through the optimization of designs and processes which can both improve the performance of certain components and also reduce production time. Additive manufacturing also helps in prototyping several iterations of a product quickly and enables decisions taken to be based on tests conducted on such prototypes. Also, research on materials that can be used with 3D printers is progressing rapidly, and many promising candidates have been found that will change the semiconductor industry shortly. This is a case study aimed at seeing how and where the additive manufacturing processes can aid the semiconductor production industry which has a wide scope and huge demand in the automotive sector. It includes details regarding how additive manufacturing is much superior to traditional manufacturing methods and why it would be the most suitable manufacturing technique for several processes in the manufacture of semiconductors. The study also aims to identify possible additive manufacturing machines that can produce components for semiconductors at the micro or nanoscale.

摘要
