Laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) and electron beam melting (EBM) have been the most popular metal additive manufacturing technologies for the industries, such as aerospace, defense, medical, and automotive. As industries are adopting these technologies to leverage on the freedom of design it can bring, these technologies are also evolving rapidly in response to demands such as throughput, size, cost, and reliability. While LPBF is more widely used, development in EBM is gaining traction in recent years with new OEMs from China, the UK USA, Japan, and Germany.
