Tremendous advancements in heterogeneous technologies have enabled not only the digital components but also a variety of non-digital objects also to seamlessly interact with each other over multiple types of interdependent networks within the smart cities. These technologies are expected to provide flawless connectivity for communication to the coexisting thousands of diverse varieties of devices. These same smart cities are also expected to support at least the bare minimum needs of the different kinds of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). In this article, the authors first discuss the enabling core modern communication technologies used in smart cities by digital devices along with their advantages and disadvantages. Subsequently, the limitations of each of these enabling communication technologies with reference to any type of PwDs in general have been presented to emphasize on the fact that the researchers and the practitioners of these enabling technologies have to go a long way before these PwDs are integrated fully with the persons without disabilities in the society using smart com munication technologies concepts of smart cities.
