Evaluation of Droplet Generated from Small-Scale Electrospray for Micro Power Generation Utilization

The term electrospray refers to a method that employs electricity to disperse a liquid into fine aerosol particles. It is a recent research topic that has garnered worldwide attention due to its potential applications in various fields. Electrosprays are produced by the evaporation of bulk liquids or liquid dispersions of solid particles, facilitated by an electrical field that fragmentizes a liquid jet into droplets. This process, also known as electro-hydrodynamic atomization, utilizes electrostatic force to transform the generated droplets into spherically shaped jetting beads, opposing the surface tension of the droplets. The generation of droplets for particular uses is a need for using electrospray in micropower generation. In this research, a small-scale electrospray was generated using voltage generator with output of 10 kV DC. This electrospray technique is intended to be used in micro combustors for micro power generation. A syringe pump is used to infuse the liquid in a controlled flow through out of a capillary tube. The qualitative results show that the droplets generated significantly depends on the output voltages.
