Viral diseases have become an important limiting factor in the growth of shrimp aquaculture worldwide due to their ability to cause high mortality and lack of curative measures. More than 20 viral pathogens are known to infect penaeid shrimps, and five of them are listed by the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH). Other than the most deleterious white spot diseases (WSD) caused by white spot syndrome virus, viruses such as Decapod Penstyldensovirus 1 (PstDV1)/Infectious hypodermal and hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHHNV), Decapod hepanhamaparvovirus 1 (DHPV-1)/Hepatopancreatic parvovirus (HPV), Penaeus monodon-type baculovirus/Monodon baculovirus (MBV) and Infectious myonecrosis virus (IMNV) are reported from Indian shrimp aquaculture. This chapter provides an overview of these viruses.
