The inappropriate use of antimicrobials by aquaculturists to control diseases in farmed aquatic animals is an important driver for the emergence and dissemination of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Additionally, the presence of antimicrobial residues in farmed aquatic animals raises serious food safety concerns. This chapter focuses on the use of antimicrobials in aquaculture, the potential implications of their usage and how AMR impacts aquatic animal health and public health.
